Euro-topies

Prof. dr. Luiza Bialasiewicz is a political geographer and Professor and Chair of European Governance at the University of Amsterdam, where she also co-directs the Amsterdam Centre for European Studies (ACES). Since 2013, she is recurrent Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, Natolin where she teaches an annual course on European Geopolitics. 

Bialasiewicz's research examines the political geographies of European foreign policy and EU geopolitics, with particular attention to the geopolitics of the EU's migration management at the Union's external borders and beyond. Her most recent work investigates how broader geopolitical concerns 'touch down' in domestic politics, with a focus on far-right movements and parties. She is the author of the co-edited collection Spaces of Tolerance: Changing Geographies and Philosophies of Religion in Today's Europe (2019) and the edited volume Europe in the World: EU Geopolitics and the Making of European Space (2011; paperback edition 2016). 

Florian Lippert is a German Associate Professor, Vice Chair and Profile Coordinator of European Culture and Literature at the University of Groningen. He currently is a Research Fellow at the Netherlands Institute of Advanced Study (NIAS) in Amsterdam. Since 2017, he has been an Expert Evaluator for the European Commission, and since 2022 he is also an Expert Evaluator for the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and a Selection Board Member for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). He has published widely on modern and contemporary literature and film, the European "migrant crisis", Discourse Theory and Social Systems Theory.  

Florian Lippert received his PhD in Modern German Literature at the University of Freiburg, Germany, and had lecturer positions at King's College London, Sungshin University Seoul and the University of Fine Arts, Karlsruhe. His current research focuses on notions and ideas of “cultural sameness” and “normality”, especially in the context of contemporary populism.  

Dimitris Soudias is the Marilena Laskaridis Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Amsterdam, and member of the theme group 'The Politics of (De)familiarization' at the Netherlands Institute of Advanced Study (NIAS). His research is informed by economic sociology, and cultural economy approaches to the study of such issues as creativity, happiness, entrepreneurship, uncertainty, and the social economy.

Prior to joining UvA, Dimitris held research positions at the London School of Economics, Philipps-Universität Marburg, and Freie Universität Berlin. He was also the Head of Library and Information at the Goethe-Institut Athens, where he worked on the social economy, algorithmic governance, and the commoning movements in Southeast Europe and Turkey in light of the economization of social life. Dimitris received doctorate in political science from Philipps-Universität Marburg. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Middle East Studies from the American University in Cairo, and a Dipl. Pol. in Political Science from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.
Dimitris' book, 'Paradoxes of Emancipation: Neoliberalism and Radical Imagination in Greece and Beyond', is currently under contract with Syracuse University Press. 

Antoine Mouteau is the moderator of Euro-topies. He was born in 1986 and grew up in Dunkirk near the Belgian border. Before entering the Toulouse School of Journalism, he studied Dutch. Before moving to the Netherlands as a correspondent, he worked for several years in the editorial office of ARTE's news programme, "ARTE Journal", at the channel's headquarters in Strasbourg. Since his arrival in the Netherlands in 2015, he works mainly for ARTE Journal (for which he covers the Netherlands and Scandinavia).

He is also a correspondent in the Netherlands for other media such as Courrier International, Radio France, Radio France Internationale, RTBF, RTS, Le Soir...
